According to the Boston Globe, Ford Motor Company has recalled approximately half a million vehicles due to mechanical issues.  The Ford recall includes minivans and SUV’s, most notably, the 2004 and 2005 Freestar, the Mercury Monterey Minivans, and the 2001 and 2002 Ford Escape.

The minivan recall was due to a problem with its torque converter output shaft which can result in a loss of power.  The SUV recall was made because it has a leaky brake fluid cap which can result in spontaneous fire if the fluid leaks, and it can also damage the electrical connecter.

If someone owns one of the recalled vehicles, it can be brought back to the vehicle / equipment manufacturer so the problem can be remedied.  Ford must also notify all registered owners and purchasers of these recalled cars by first class mail.
