The National Safety Council recently reported that traffic fatalities have increased by 12% over the last 3 months as compared to the same time period in 2011. During this time in 2011, there were approximately 7,300 roadway fatalities across the U.S. During the same time in 2012, there were approximately 8,200.

The NSC suggests that the mild winter and improving economy could be contributing factors as more people are taking to the roads. As a result of the increased fatalities, the country has realized nearly $300 million in medical expenses, employer costs and lost wages and property damage. To put in in perspective, this works out to about $1,522 per person in the U.S. This huge financial burden can be lessened.
