According to West Springfield Police, a woman was killed while she attempted to cross the street near the Eastern States Exposition.  Reports of the incident indicated that the woman was struck by a pickup truck around 9:30 p.m.

After the collision, the driver of the truck stopped and was described as being visibly shaken up.  There are currently no charges pending against the driver but the incident still remains under investigation.

West Springfield Police have not decided if speed was a factor in the fatal accident but local business owners have described the 4 lane street, and accompanying intersection, as dangerous.  The owner of the business Lattitude was quoted as saying he “was shocked to hear about the accident, but isn’t surprised.”
